It’s been a while since I played a horror game, and since I got a laptop that actually functions now, I thought I’d test some out.
As someone who mostly focuses on psychological and slow burners, I decided to change things up.
Black rose is a game with little to no plot. It is a first-person survival horror game where you explore an old and abandoned funeral home equipped only with a flashlight. Your curiosity has gotten the better of you and you are now hell-bent on finding out what exactly happened in there.
As you can tell, the game has you mainly run around the funeral home, looking at clues, all the while having some sort of voice speak to you, asking you not to leave. While you are exploring, you come across a coffin, a coffin that might not be as empty as one would think.
Now, the game is not really long, and it’s not really anything amazing, however, it does not need much to get you invested. The atmosphere is really quite good and the uncertainty of what is coming after you and where it is coming from has you on the edge constantly.
Until of course, you die a few times. After that the jumpscares, no matter how good they are, become very predictable, so the game has a very limited life span.
Still, I enjoyed playing it for a while, more than I expected so it did its job. If you want to kill some time at the end of the day, it will definitely do the job.
Final verdict: 6/10
Will you be doing posts like these often? I always like reading about more new (or old) horror games.
